    Angry Counting

" Obama leads Romney 49% to 43%, a new poll showed. The survey also found a resurgence of anxiety about the economy as job growth has stalled. Romney is building support among men, seniors and white voters overall. Both candidates clocked their highest count to date among Americans who view them 'very negatively.' "

If the main group is the Americans who view them negatively, what sub-group is referred to by "highest count"? Would "highest count to date OF Americans" be better?

    Re: Counting

Oh, I doubt it's a peak. Even more people can view either or both of them in a negative light. It's just the highest number so far.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
