    Paper written by two authors

    Hi,
I have a sentence that goes like this: "Smith and Jones (1995) uses...". Should it be "uses" or "use"? Since I am referring to a single paper I would think "uses", but as there are two authors it might be that "use" is correct.

    I would use the plural.

I would use the plural if you are going to start the sentence with their names. You could say "The 1995 paper by Smith and Jones uses ..."
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

That's often the wisest move - when you're on the horns of a dilemma try not grasp the nettle or take the bull by the horns Paraphrase.
