This is about politicians' double-sided aspects of favoring their personal life, while dismissing climate change. "Calculus" is a math area, so did the writer mistake it for "calculation"?

I have to say that I have never seen or used "calculus" that way before. It was just a math class.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
And I liked his post that explained it, so perhaps I need to say "I had never before seen" instead of "I have never seen."
