    Indices vs indexes

    Dear Teachers

What is the difference between "indexes" and "indices"? Apart from spelling, which one is US spelling? And, are they prounced in the same way?

    Please advise

    Re: Indices vs indexes

Both words are used as plural forms of index. Both are correct, and there is no difference in meaning, though some people use indices (/ˈɪndɪsi:z/)in mathematical contexts and indexes (/ˈɪndeksɪz/)elsewhere. Indexes appears to be preferred in North American English.
