    Question Which is correct?

    Hello! Which of these two sentences (if either) is correct, or where they need corrections? Is there any better alternative that can be used synonymously? I just need to know how this question must be formed grammatically.

    1) "What color of a jacket were you in yesterday at the party?"
    2) "In a jacket of what color were you yesterday at the party?"

    Thanks!

    Re: Which is correct?

    Neither of your suggestions is natural. These are:

    What colour (BrE) jacket were you wearing at the the party yesterday?

    What colour jacket did you wear to the party yesterday?

    NOT A TEACHER

    Hello. Eshafter:

    I know that it is very confusing, but in modern English, we cannot say "What color of jacket ...."

    We have to ask "What color jacket/ hair/ eyes/ hat does Mona have?"

    When you have time, please go to the search box at the very top of this page and type in these words:

    What color eyes do you have?

    I think that you will find that October, 2011, thread very helpful. One teacher named Philo shared some very interesting information with us.

    HAVE A NICE DAY!

    Re: Which is correct?

    As a native English speaker, I would ask your question as follows:

    "What colour was the jacket that you wore to the party last night?"

    note as well:
    colour = British English
    color = American English
