1. When I walked into the apartment, I heard my roommate singing in the shower.

2. I heard a famous opera star sing at the concert last night.

My grammar book says sentence 1 means 'when I walked into the apartment she was in the middle of

singing in the shower' while sentence 2 aplies 'I heard the the song from the beginning to the end'.

I actually posted a similar question before and you guys said exactly in the opposite way - which makes me

pretty much confused now.

Please tell me the difference between the two sentences.

Your grammar book is approximately right. Could you post a link to the thread where somebody said the opposite? I'll have a look at it and see what went wrong.

My grammar book says sentence 1 means 'when I walked into the apartment she was in the middle of

singing in the shower' (OK) while sentence 2 [STRIKE]aplies[/STRIKE] means or implies 'I heard the the song from the beginning to the end'. Could have been many songs and not just one song "from beginning to end". And it's just a general reference to the singer's performance.

I actually posted a similar question before and you guys said exactly in the opposite way - which makes me

pretty much confused now. See 5jj's request.

Please tell me the difference between the two sentences.

Sorry I can't find the thread. I might have been mistaken.

I don't think you guys said wrong.

It's always me - of course

I have a question:
When I walked into the apartment, I heard my roommate singing in the shower.

"Heard" is simple past, the
action is beginning and end is the past, right ???
