    detached house vs semi-detached house

I used to live in Canada, and I don't remember if I heard these two terms. Are they common? If so, what other similar expressions do you have?

    1. detached house - an independent house
    2. semi-detached house - pairs of houses built side by side as units sharing a party wall

Re: detached house vs semi-detached house

    Hi,

There are also terraced houses: Terraced house - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And since the link you provided on 'party wall' led nowhere: What is a Party Wall?

However, for wider info on houses and buildings: List of house types - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (this is a bit far-fetched , I reckon, but it is a pretty good guide to answer your question)

That description of a semi-detached house is accurate, but would make most residents unhappy. They like to think that they live in an individual house which just happens not to be detached from the one next door.

Re: detached house vs semi-detached house

    Semi-detached are also called "twins."

In a community where I lived, there were actually houses that were four homes that were attached, like a square divided into four smaller squares, and these were called "quads."

Are Duplex and semi-detached house different from each other? If so, what are the differences?
