Suppose Michael used to live in a small house and then he bought a bigger house:
"He improved to a bigger house."
"He went up to a bigger house."
Are these slangy, because they seem to be used in conversations but not writing? A person is not a house. Those two sentences seem to suggest a person changed to a house.
"Adams was bumped up from Olympic silver to gold, with Evgeniia Kolodko of Russia upgraded to silver and fourth-place finisher Gong Lijiao of China moved up to bronze."
Does the same rule apply to this?
