    poker face

    Hi all,

I want to describe the facial expression of a gambler who just loses money during gambling. It is an expression which is shown by people who are very eager to win but lose during the game. For example, a gambler is very talkative and has a very high spirit at the beginning of a game when he is winning money, but after a game which costs him half of his pocket, he becomes very quiet, feeling disappointed at his mistake and angry at the person who won his money. I want to describe the facial expression such person wears. Can I say he wears a poker face?

    Thank you!

    Jiajia

Not in the situation you describe because a "poker face" is one that does not show emotion, that doesn't give away to the other players what the person is feeling or thinking.
The sort of description you want depends on whether the person is mainly just disappointed, or is more angry or upset, and other factors. Possible ways to describe the loser's look are: dejected, bitter, beaten, defeated, crushed, long-faced, glum, crestfallen, down at the mouth, despairing, dismal, resentful etc.

I'm afraid that a poker face is the opposite of what you want. A poker face is one that gives no clues about what the person is feeling.
