The tradition [of constructing / to construct] such columns goes back to ancient Roma

    Hi,

On Stock Exchange square on the point of the Basil island in St.Petersburg there are two huge columns known as the Rostral Columns. The tradition [of constructing / to construct] such columns goes back to ancient Roman times, where they were usually erected in order to commemorate victories over their enemies.

Do we use the gerund or the infinitive with "tradition"?

    Thanks

    Use "of constructing".
