The original sentense is as follows:

The median sample firm has 17.9% annualized earnings growth.

I want to rewrite it as,

The median sample firm has an annualized earnings growth rate of 17.9%.

Could this be better?
By the way, if you have some knowledge of statistics, you should know that the more precise meaning behind this sentence should be

The median of the annualized earning growth rates of the sample firms is 17.9%.

I am wondering if it is too unformal to write a sentense like the frist one.
Since it is quoted from a famous financial journal, I have no confidence to criticize it. Therefore, I hope that I can get some help here.

I have no idea what a 'median ... firm' might be. Isn't it talking about a median growth rate? (Neither the original nor either of your rewritten forms say this...).

I have no idea what a 'median ... firm' might be. (Perhaps there id some convention whereby the term 'median firm' refers to turnover, or profit, or number of employees, or something like that....:-?) Isn't it talking about a median growth rate? (Neither the original nor either of your rewritten forms says this...).
