In the past few days, I attended conferences held by two candidates campaigning for a seat (which is a seat of the functional constituency) of the Legislative Council in Hong Kong. One of them supports the democratic reform of the legislative system including the abolishment of the functional constituency. Ironically, it means the candidate is seeking votes from the members of his sector to support his stance of abolishing the very seat he is campaigning for. It is natural that the members of a professional sector would wish to elect someone to fight for the interests of that sector. Therefore, the political stance of that candidate stirred up a heated debate among the members of his sector - that is whether to vote for the interests of the sector or the interests of Hong Kong as a whole.
