What does the following mean? I found it in a play named “The Silver Idol”. It was said by a character when he and his mother were about to make a bet on football results.
“If your wish is granted, I am Tommy Lawton.”
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
A better title for this thread would have been I am Tommy Lawton.
He was a famous footballer of his time.
In a modern play, the character might say to his mother
'If you win the lottery, my name's David Beckham'.
In other words 'There's as much chance of you winning the lottery as there is of me turning into David Beckham.'
