    What does the following mean?

What does the following mean? I found it in a play named “The Silver Idol”. It was said by a character when he and his mother were about to make a bet on football results.
“If your wish is granted, I am Tommy Lawton.”

Call me cynical, but are you really a retired English teacher from Afghanistan, living in Angola and whose native language is Afrikaans? If the standard of this post is anything to go by, the least believable one of those four facts is the "English teacher" part. A better title for this thread would have been I am Tommy Lawton.

He was a famous footballer of his time.

In a modern play, the character might say to his mother

'If you win the lottery, my name's David Beckham'.

In other words 'There's as much chance of you winning the lottery as there is of me turning into David Beckham.'
