    About tenses

    He ....... for my company for 3 years until he left 2 years ago.

    a. worked

    b. had worked

    I think b is correct because the action "work" must happen before the action "leave".

    But the key in my test book is a. I can't find any explanation in that book.

    I don't know if I'm right. Please check it.

    Both are correct. The past perfect is not necessary because the sequence of events is clear without it. So, "a" is more natural but it doesn't make "b" wrong. It's a poor test question.
