a three-week bicycle tour across California.

This a three-week bicycle tour across California. doesn't seem to have its subject, and the translation makes "participants" as its subject. Is this a mistake or is there any hidden logic?

ex) After an event, all one has are memories of it. Because
most waits expect a desired outcome, it is the memory of the outcome that dominates, not the intermediate components. If the overall outcome is pleasurable enough, any unpleasantness suffered along the way is minimized. Terence Mitchell and Leigh Thompson call this ‘rosy retrospection.’ Mitchell and his colleagues studied participants in a 12-day tour of Europe, students going home for Thanksgiving vacation and a three-week bicycle tour across California.

There is a subject missing. It's an error.

They studied three things: 1. The participants in a 12-day tour of Europe. 2. Students going home for a Thanksgiving vacation. 3. A three-week bicycle tour across California.

There must be participants hidden in 3.
