What does mean by all the little gods?

Does it means something like "for god's sake"? There is a full sentence: "He had made his decision and by all the little gods he would stick to it." Thanks

I imagine so. Instead of saying "..., and by God, he would stick to it," the writer chose to refer to other gods, instead of the monotheistic one.

Welcome to the forums. Thank you very much for using a good title and a writing a properly formatted question.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
