    speak softly on the phone

    Hi all,

Can I say "She lied on a sofa and spoke softly to her boy friend on the phone"? I think it sounds a bit strange, or should I use by phone? Thanks!

'She lay on a sofa and spoke softly to her boyfriend on the phone' is just fine.
