    Is this sentence correct?

    It was him who could raise his native language to that of the local tribe.

    It suggests that this person did manage to make his first language stand out among the local residents of the region. So later these people were under the influence of his native language.

    May I most respectfully and humbly remind you that one of your best students might ask whether "him" is the

    "correct" pronoun.

    It seems that most native speakers do, indeed, use "him" nowadays, but those who try to follow "book English" would

    prefer:

    "It was he who introduced his native language to the local tribe."
