    Is the usage acceptable? About "however"

    The sentence:

    Any effort, however Herculean, will be useless if the direction is wrong.


    Should we edit it as:

    Any effort, no matter how herculean, will be useless if the direction is wrong.

    Both sentences are perfectly idiomatic. The first has the advantage of brevity.
