    87.1 percent of the time

I can't get what "the time" here means.

ex)Recently, researchers have been investigating methods of assessing the accuracy of eyewitnesses. One promising method involves measuring the length of time it takes witnesses to make an identification. Witnesses who identify a suspect quickly are more likely to be accurate thatn are witnesses who take longer to make an identification. In one series of studies, witnesses who identified a criminal in 10 or fewer seconds were accurate 87.1 percent of the time, whereas witnesses who took longer than 10 seconds were accurate only 46.3 percent of the time.

Re: 87.1 percent of the time

'the time' means out of all the identifications, the witness was only sure a certain amount of times.

    BTW, are you studying criminology?

Although I'd probably say "87.1 percent of the times".

No. 'X per cent of the time' is fine.
