Sylvia was affected by her setting when she realized the grass was greener on the other side. She was ashamed when Miss. Moore took them to the toy store and saw the prices on the toys. She felt shame when they referred to her town as the “slums”. Sylvia was almost becoming Miss. Moore when she started to adapt her language. Miss. Moore was happy when Sylvia was getting mad because she was trying to teach her a lesson “creating awareness in adolescents about what life has to offer”. Sylvia didn’t know why Miss. Moore even hung around she wasn’t related by blood or even a family friend. She wanted to help the kids see that you don’t have to live in the “slums” forever. Miss. Moore wanted to show there’s another world out there, you can be educated and you can afford the toys we saw in the store.
