    Brighten into smiles of happiness

Hi! I've translated a Russian phrase almost word for word and I've got this: "Their faces brighten into smiles of happiness". Does it sound English?

"Their faces beam(ed) with happiness" sounds, IMO, somewhat more natural (definition #3).
Please be aware that I'm neither a native English speaker nor a teacher.

'Beam' with happiness definitely sounds more natural for a native speaker. However, if you want to keep the 'word for word' translation, "Their faces brighten into smiles of happiness" sounds good to me!
