    A told B "You like gambling. Hence the purple smudge on your thumb from the ticket stubs at the track"

    What does "at the track" mean in the above sentence?

    People go to race tracks like these to gamble on the results of horse or greyhound races.

    - or ferrets, or snails ... anything that moves really. But dog and horse racing are the most likely canidates (to be supported by an infrastructure that involves ticket stubs).
