It's a translation between Mandarin and English. I would like to know what would be your answers which meanwhile do not sound weird to you.
Situation:
1. I want to describe something owned by someone I don't know.
Example: It seems "others'" lives are always smoother than our own.
Why cannot you be as sweet as "others' " girlfriends?
Is " others' " normal to you? Or other suggestions?
2. I want to describe something owned by a family which I don't know.
I saw a snake crawling on "other's/ other family's" fence when I was jogging this morning. (Obviously "other's/ other family's" is grammatically wrong here, but I don't know what word to use.)
Hope somebody can answer me in simple words. Thanks a million.
