Any collocations for 'role' in the cinema, please?

    Hi,
Could you please help me by giving me some expressions, verbs, etc. which are normally used when you want to say how brilliantly a role has been played? Actually, saying so you're praising the actor/actress in a film and the way they've played their role so natural. Thanks.

"He/She was brilliant in that role."
"Meryl Streep brought great skill and empathy to the role of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady."

I'm not sure if I heard it correctly or not, but once someone said something like, 'he always hits his roles' or something?! Have we got such a verb or phrasal verb meaning the same?

No, that doesn't mean anything to me.
