Talking Need help again - I think I can keep you guys busy

Once again I am looking for an appropriate way to express my feelings or reaction on something.

    Here's what I want.

I want to say that I don't wanna be a slave to work but I don't want to use these words, probably something better.

Just suggest me anything; an idiom, a phrase or an example.

You can take this sentence for example:

I want to give some time to my family and friends every week. I don't want to work like a machine and have no social life at all.

So the bold part in blue, could someone give me a better way of saying the please. Thank you.

I don't want my entire life to revolve around my job.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Another is some variation on 'Work to live, not live to work' - 'You should work to live, not live to work' or 'I want to work to live, not live to work'.... One I actually said (about 25 years ago) was 'I don't want to be the sort of father who pays the bills and sees the children at the weekend.

Wow nice ones, especially the one you said 25 years ago. Who did you say that to?

Suggestion for a better thread title: I don't want to work like a machine.

    Extract from the Posting Guidelines:

Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed. (Avoid phrases like "HELP!", "Urgent!", "translation please", "how do I say this", "I'm new" and similar expressions.)

A superior, but not my boss - one of those people who assumes that their failure to plan - causing a need for extra manpower - justifies the disruption of the life of anyone lower down in the hierarchy than them.

Re: Need help again - I think I can keep you guys busy

@BobK ... ouch! I wonder why is it this way all around the world. I was never able to continue a job for more than 1.5 years in my entire career because of the same or nearly identical issues. I don't know how I will ever manage to control my aggression and reaction to the things "superiors" do to the ones below them. And why do they feel they have the right to do so? I am not talking about all but many or may be most of them. Illusion of power is it?
