Emergency call centre ESTA confirmed on Tuesday that the second of two triple-0 calls Ms Pratt made on the night had not been forwarded to police.

More: Woman's triple-0 call on night she was killed not passed to police

I learned from the above-mentioned text that I can construct the following:

In case of emergency, please call triple-9. I mean to click button 9 three times (999). Is this correct?

It's understandable, but I don't know if triple-9 is common parlance.

In the UK we call our emergency number 'nine-nine-nine' - never 'triple nine'.

You're quoting a story from an Australian newspaper. Here, we call 000 for emergencies. This is actually triple zero, but it's called "triple-o".

PS: How did learn from this text that you should call triple-9 in an emergency?

On a side note, when referring to buckshot, 000 is typically pronounced "triple aught" and 00, "double aught".

I did set it as an example. Thank you besides, your question is appreciated.
