1. The deadline for the project is tomorrow. How are we going to catch up in time?
2. The deadline for the project is tomorrow. How are we ever going to catch up in time?
What are the differences in meanings with ever and without ever in the above two sentences?
The first seems could be asking for an actual plan. The second could be a cry of lament.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
