What happened to you? VS. What has happened to you?

What happened to you? VS. What has happened to you?

I know the difference between usage of past tense and present perfect tense, but sometimes I feel like they are interchangeable like the examples.

So when I saw a friend with a black eye or something, which one should I say and what is the difference?

Thank you so much as usual and have a good day.

There is no significant difference in meaning between the two.
