parliament member, senator defected from one party

Would there be any name or slang term for a parliament member(senator or congressman) who's been elected to the Parliament(Congress or Senate) on the ticket of one political party and than defects to another for personal and political gain?

"Turncoat" or "traitor" to the party he left.

I don't think there is a general neutral word to describe such a person, other than "party-switcher."
