This cat ran to the bedroom door and scratched _____ until the owner opened it.

Could I fill in the word "urgently"?

Thanks for your help!

I would use "frantically" or "manically". Or, in the case of my cat, "annoyingly but cutely"! ;-)

So "urgently" is more likely to be used by somebody, not some animal.

No word is likely to be used "by" an animal - animals can't speak.

If you mean "urgently is more likely to be used about a person, not about an animal", then you are probably right. Animals don't really understand the meaning of urgency. They might be frantic or scared or many other base emotions.
