Do you get "in an elevator" or "on an elevator?"

Good question. I think in the U.S. you would typically hear "on", particularly if you are speaking about boarding the elevator, but "in" might be used in some situations to describe events or actions that occur inside (in) the elevator, as in "the assault occurred in the elevator".

In BrE, we normally get in the lift.

    Re: elevator ride

In BrE, we "get in" and "get out of" the lift. We then "go up" or "go down" in the lift.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
