[Grammar] as well

I've got another problem :) Can you help? :)

- It helps my mother as well as my sister.
- It helps my mother and sister as well.

Where should I put 'as well'?

:)

If you want to say that it helps your mother and it helps your sister, the best way is with your first sentence. If you use the second, you are suggesting that it helps your mother, your sister and other unspecified persons.

Where should I put 'as well'? Personally, I wouldn't put it anywhere. :) The use or overuse of "as well" is one of my pet peeves, particularly among the broadcast media. Why not use the old reliable "and"?
