I have a few questions regarding the captioned:

1) A lot depends on the way in which/that you say it.

in which = in the way you say it
that = in that? or just that? I'm confused about this one.

2) I have seen many situations where people talk ...

I can replace where with in which, right?

3) people often judge you by the way in which you stand...

Can I replace in which with 'how'? What are the other possibilities?

4) It is essential after an emotional argument to have a period in which you ...

Should I replace in which with when / where? Both seem fine.

5) similar to (3), can I replace in which with 'how'?
Many people respond negatively to the way in which people...

It seems 'how' collocates with the way in these relative clauses

If you are aware of any good websites explaining relative clauses with these abstract nouns, please recommend some.

BIG thank you!

No 'in'.

Yes

Can I replace in which with 'how'?
No
It is essential after an emotional argument to have a period in which you ...

Should I replace in which with when / where?
These are possible, but there is no 'should' involved.

No This is a common learner error.

Thank you very much!

For 1) If the preposition is not necessary, the sentence becomes

A lot depends on the way that you say it.

This means that the above sentence can be re-written as
A lot depends on the way.
&
you say it the (that particular) way [that, as a relative pronoun, is used to replace the noun phrase - that way].

Does it mean the noun phrase ' the way' functions as an adverb modifying the verb say. In other words, the phrase refers to the manner - the way ?

Thanks again

I'm just confused what 'that' is referring to and what its function is.
