    filter

I would like to use the word 'filter' for 'narrow down' but do not know what preposition to be used to connect the conditions on which filtering is made:

    For example,

The data was filtered by/through? date and time.

Also let me know in case of 'narrow down', i.e.' ...narrowed down (preposition) date and time'.

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: filter

    I would use "according to".
The data was narrowed down/filtered according to date and time.
    or possibly
The data was narrowed down/filtered on the basis of date and time.
