[Idiom] HOW TO SAY

Put a sock in it:- is nothing but to say SHUT UP

in this regard if I want say someone this above idiom,how would I have to say,may I have to say like this
"YOU PUT A SOCK IN IT" OR i CAN JUST SAY "PUT A SOCK IN IT". PLEASE AWAITING OF YOUR ANSWER

"Put a sock in it" is sufficient, but you need to know tht it is not very polite.

I beg to differ. It's used in the US. If not nationally, then certainly in areas where I've lived.
