Student or Learner
I would to know about using informal contractions in conversation. Can I use these contractions such as gona, wanna, gimme, gotta,...in IELTS, TOEFL,...?
What do you think about learning and using these contractions? Is this good or bad?
The site gives many colloquial contractions:https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/k-lee7/www.../collcontr.htm
I am confused if I should learn it or not.
I'd like to hear your advice and thoughts.
Thank for help.
Don't use them in any writing at all, outside of an e-mail to your close friends.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
Don't even use them with close friends in email or even in notes to yourself.
But you say "conversation". You should not try to say these 'words'. If and when you produce them naturally in speech as your English improves, that's OK. Actually trying to say 'gonna' etc. in a non-native speaker usually sounds forced and, well, lame.
Thank you all.
Is it good to improve listening skill? Does I need learn this to have a good listening skill?
(I mean I don't use them at all, only to get a good listening skill.)
