Generally, it means to pay attention to the difference. It has nothing to do with the future.

To draw attention to the difference between two things, we can use it. right?

Yes, but only for one person. If I tell you to mind your manners or to mind the tea, I am telling you to pay attention to these things. If I tell you to mind the difference between the hot water and the cold water, I am telling you to pay attention to the difference between the two.
