Smile how to explain the meaning of a phrase from a weather forecast

    from: Piers Morgans' radio program
"A warm front has flooded the lower 48 states with 482 daily high temperature records across the country on Monday alone."

How can I explain the phrase "482 daily high temperature records" to make it easier to understand?

I would appreciate your help. Thank you.
