    Exclamation 'As in'

I was watching a sitcom on TV today where a person was telling another that Luciano Pavarotti came from Madrid!

The other person said 'Madrid as in Spain?'

Is that sentence correct...I do not understand that 'as in' at all, are there any synonyms?

    Thanks a lot

    Re: 'As in'

It's used as a way of getting clarification- here to show that the person believes the information is wrong, unless there is a place called Madrid in Italy.
