    Prior to joining this company...?

    Prior to joining this company, I worked at XXX.
    OR
    Prior to joining this company, I have worked at XXX.

    I honestly think the latter sounds better but since joining the company is already an event in the past, the first is grammatically more correct?

    What's your view? Thanks
