    in favor of

When asked about their opinion about the schoolmaster ,many teachers would prefer to see him step aside in favor of younger men.

Can you help to paraphrase the underlined "in favor of"? Does it mean "to support" as explained in a dictionary?

    thanks

    Re: in favor of

It means 'to the benefit of'. (Collins dictionary)

Please note that you don’t need a space before comma. Space comes after punctuation marks.
