    in Ibiza or on Ibiza?

    Hi,

I know that when you say the word "island" you use the preposition "on".

My question is, is it the same if you name the island?

    Which is correct?

Last summer I was in Ibiza.
Last summer I was on Ibiza.

    Thanks

In most cases, if the island is an idependent, self-governing country, such as Cuba or Sri Lanka, use 'in'. Otherwise, use 'on'.

So last summer you were on Ibiza.

If you are thinking of the town, it's 'in'.
If you are thinking of Ibiza as a place, it's 'in'.
If you are thinking of it as an island, it's 'on'.

Re: in Ibiza or on Ibiza?

I agree entirely with the logic of the previous two responses. However, I think that regardless of the name of the resort or destination on the island, if you asked most of the young people who make up the majority of Ibiza's summer tourist trade where they were last summer, they'll say "I was in Ibiza for 2 weeks".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
