    It is only fitting

Could you help me to understand the meaning of this phrase "It is only fitting?"
eg. It is only fitting that we share our knowledge with others.

    Re: It is only fitting

    As an NES:

I would translate it as "appropriate"
See: fitting - definition of fitting by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

PS: I would thoroughly recommend using the Free Dictionary. It covers both BrE & AME and your earlier "eye-opening"

    Re: It is only fitting

I think there is a little more to it. Why is the only there? "It is fitting" and "It is appropriate" are equivalent in meaning. So when we say "It is only fitting" we add the additional sense that sharing our knowledge is the only appropriate thing to do.
