    Yes I suppose having English is such a benefit! Always havethought so but I guess now thinking about it, that it is important as I don't have the real need to learn another language. It certainly is helpful, but not a necessity unlike some places.

    It was written by one of my native speaker friend while we were discussing about the benefit of knowing English. The only way I can interpret is as below :

    Am I correctly interpreting it?

    What does "the phrase in blue" mean? Does it mean it is not a necessity(or helpful)in many places except few?

    He means that native English speakers, unlike people in "some places" (i.e. non-English speaking countries), have no compelling necessity to learn another language in order to communicate and do business internationally.
