    Singular or Plural?

Hi, can someone please tell me which of these sentences is correct?
    1) One man is wearing a red jersey and the others are wearing a blue jacket.
    OR
    2) One man is wearing a red jersey and the others are wearing blue jackets.

Does 1) mean that the others are all wearing one blue jacket between them and does 2) mean the others are each wearing more than one blue jacket each? I'm confused!

    "Others" is two men.

    THANKS!

    Re: Singular or Plural?

    2) is more natural, and the reader will assume that each one of the others is wearing his own blue jacket.

If you want to make 1) absolutely clear, you can do so by inserting the word "each", so that it reads "....others are each wearing a blue jacket".
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....

    Re: Singular or Plural?

Another thought - are there any rules about the subject and object number agreement that I can study?
