    He is getting over

Can I use "get over" meaning "recover" without an object?
He had an accident last week but now he is getting over.

In addition, you get over a cold or an illness, but not an accident. At least, in my experience.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    NOT A TEACHER

Or you can get over some emotional strain, such as a breakup with your (boy/girl)friend or a death of somebody close to you.
Please note that I'm not a teacher.
