    Lightbulb please help me in this test

    hi

    Since he started smoking I . him to stop it .

    a)had always asked - b)am always asking -
    c)have always asked - d)always asked -

    some people say (b) is correct and some people say (c) is correct

    what's your idea ? and why ?

    it's confusing to me . please explain it to me .thanks

    "B" is correct. It is an ongoing thing, so the progressive is used.

    I would go with c), especially with the use of "since" and the present perfect. The action began in the past and continues, at least, up to the immediate present.

    I am firmly convinced that c is right, but b can also be an alternative. However, knowing what these tests want, I would definitely pick c.

    I would go for b) first with c) as my second choice. It's a pretty poor question. I would have omitted "it" from the end, and they have put a space before the full stop and forgotten the comma after "smoking".

    This would be how I would word it:

    Ever since my father started smoking, I have been asking him to stop.

    (I realise that "have been asking" wasn't a choice but it's the most natural.)
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
