    preposition of

    Please see the sentence below.

"It is now very clear indeed that I have the confidence of my colleagues to lead the Labor Party and to remain as Prime Minister.

Preposition OF is correctly used in the above sentence? What is the logic behind?

I would say “"It is now very clear indeed that I have the confidence that my colleagues would lead the Labor Party and to remain as Prime Minister”

Please advise me .. I have sick of this preposition as it is being used in the newspaper in many sentences that I am not conformable with.

    Re: preposition of

His colleagues have confidence in him.
He has the confidence of his colleagues.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Your proposal completely changes the meaning of the sentence.

In the original sentence it is the speaker that would lead the party.
In the proposed sentence his colleagues are the ones that would lead the party and the remainder of the sentence becomes a non sequitur.
