    What does this sentence mean?

    Could anyone please advise what this sentence means?

    "It's not what the world holds for you. It's what you bring to it."

    "What the world holds for you" stands for the sum of things you have received by inheritance. You may be rich, poor, handsome, intelligent, short, ugly, a Peer of the Realm, or Italian. Whatever.

    "What you bring to it", on the other hand, is what you choose to do and accomplish in life. In the writer's opinion, this is more important than the hand life has dealt you.
